Pretty simple explanation. Winds blow 50-90kts from the East piling up the water on the West end of the Lake (you can see this on the Laplace Gauge). Winds stop blowing or change direction. About 20-30minutes after the Laplace guage drops, we get a surge as the water sloshes back. About another 20-30 Minutes after we drop back down, the Slidell/Rigolets guages show a surge. You sometimes see progressively smaller surges as it sloshes back and forth across the lake. This can happen no matter what the Wind direction is when it blows hard. Morale of the story is when the Wind stops, you have less than 20minutes to get to higher ground or secure your boat. This is what happened in Zeta to a larger degree.
