NOYC Membership Brainstorm

I brought this to the top for CONSTRUCTIVE discussion:

So I looked at the number of members lost last year and it was 51 members lost, not 20 as was stated in the meeting. So this is actually a bigger deal than I realized. That a 15% loss. There's some good ideas above, I'll briefly recap them below.

-Exit report. We need to do an analysis on why all of these members left.
-The club/sailing is fun. Wednesday Nigh Racing is gold. The bar can be a good time on the right nights. Some of the old NOYC races should be brought back. Lemans Races, can someone please elaborate on this? 420 flip cup challenge! Benz had an interesting Intergalactic challenge that sounded like fun. We should work on bringing back some of the more interesting weekend races.
-Social Media. Apparently all the young kids are doing it now. FB presence has been expanded in the couple years, but we should work on other platforms. I know some work is being done on this as I type.
-Be Nice, I think we do a pretty good job of this.
-Price... This is a big one.
-I think our monthly price is fine. I know we've lost some of the better sailors when they're tier 2 membership aged out and they had to start paying full price. Not sure what to do about that, please chime in.
-"Deposit", To me this is more of an entry fee as it's non-refundable, but I digress. This is likely the biggest hurdle to getting new members. Plenty of people join a gym for 80 bucks a month, but they aren't burdened with a $500 fee. I joined when the entry fee was half price, and know plenty of good members who've done so as well. Some statements we made about the apparent failure of this discount in the past, and that we only kept 25% of the members who joined during this period. I view that as we got what ever amount of new members 25% is, and got 250 bucks out of the others that didn't stay. I don't see the problem. As I understand it, the purpose of this deposit is to mitigate the clubs risk of a member running up a tab and leaving. I will propose that this fee be based on a credit score the same as most organizations do now a days. This seems to be a pretty good metric, and would make entrance much less risky for potential new members, as well as mitigating the clubs risk. If you have other ideas, I would love to hear them.
-Club boats. This seems to be one of the more important ways to justify the cost of the club. It's going to be tough to compete with the new sailing center in this regard. I think we should keep the focus on small, low cost boats. They must be functioning, which is tough without a sailing director.

-All of the above is great, but If nobody knows about it we're not going to get new members. I'm working on that part.

Please keep this conversation going.
